At 9:30 a.m. on June 19, 2022, the graduation ceremony and degree conferment ceremony for the 2022 students of the College of Law of Southeast University was held in the lecture hall of Jizhong Building of Jiulong Lake Campus. Party Secretary Mao Huixi, Dean Ouyang Benqi, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Dean Liu Qichuan, Vice Dean Xiong Zhanglin, Vice Dean Shan Pingji, Professor Wang Jinyuan, Professor Meng Hongzhi, Professor Shi Jianhui, Professor Gong Xianghe, Professor Yang Dengfeng, Professor Yu Lishen, Professor Wang Lusheng, Professor Li Chuan, Professor Liu Lianjun, Professor Yin Ji, Professor Huang Zhe, and all teachers of the Law School, representatives of alumni, representatives of parents of the graduates, and representatives of the graduates of the School of Law were present. All the faculty members, alumni representatives, parents' representatives and 2022 graduates attended this offline ceremony to enjoy the joy of graduation and witness the unforgettable moment together.

Before the commencement of the ceremony, the College prepared a cold dinner and Coke with the names of the graduates, hoping that after sharing this sweetness, the graduates can start a new chapter of their lives with the expectation and spirit of Southeast Law School! 

At the beginning of the ceremony, everyone stood up and sang the national anthem. After the national anthem, Associate Professor Liu Qichuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of the Law School, officially announced the commencement of the graduation ceremony and degree conferment ceremony for the 2022 students of Southeast University Law School.

Message from Prof. Ouyang Benqi, Dean of the Law School

Professor Ouyang Benqi, Dean of the School of Law, gave a message to the graduates with the theme of Life is a long string of choices.

Dean Ouyang believes that the most important thing that students face is - choice. Whether it is a material choice or a spiritual choice, there are two points that are especially important: First, for individuals, choose to do difficult things. The one who does not seek the easy is the one who achieves, and the one who does not take refuge is the one who advances. Choosing to do hard things means constantly breaking through the ceiling of life and improving yourself. Choosing to do hard things means eliminating rivals and reducing competition at a new starting point. Choosing to do hard things means not being bound by sunk costs and bravely facing new opportunities. Choosing to do the hard things is in a way to get out of the comfort zone and cast into the unknown. Second, for society, choose to keep justice. To establish a heart for heaven and earth, to establish a life for the living people, to follow the past sage, and to open up peace for all generations. The choice of legal people is not only about their own fate, but also about the fate of others. We should not only continue to cultivate our profession, but also choose to keep justice.

Dean Ouyang said that life is a journey of constant choices, and through one choice after another, we realize ourselves and break through ourselves. When we have read all the boats and sails, what remains is the most beautiful scenery of our own choice.

On behalf of the teachers of Dongda Law School, Prof. Wang Jinyuan gave a message to the graduates with the theme of learning in Dongda, sharpening in society. Prof. Wang Jinyuan pointed out that the most important thing to remember as a graduate of Dongda Law School is the spirit of stopping at the best of Dongda University.

First of all, the spirit of seeking truth must be present. First, the foundation must be solid; second, the heart must be true; third, the person must be down-to-earth. Secondly, the spirit of innovation is also necessary. Innovation means the renewal and creation of ideas, paths and methods. On the road of seeking truth and innovation, there are straightforward paths and bumps. Students should, first of all, face the hardships of life with courage. Secondly, they should persistently pursue the cause of justice. Thirdly, they should maintain their innate conscience.

Wang Qi, a graduate of the Class of 2018, recalled his four years of pursuing his dream at Dongda University with the theme of abiding by the original intention, being familiar with legal theory, and focusing on morality, and shared three insights with all students: first, abiding by the original intention, always keeping clear and firm; second, being familiar with legal theory, always retaining the passion for knowledge; third, focusing on morality, always Third, focus on morality and always have a sense of family and country. Yu Yun, a 2019 master's degree graduate, shared what she had seen and heard in Dongda University with the theme of Everything you see is good, everything you hear is warm and sharp, and everything you feel is responsibility: First, everything you see is good. Secondly, all the things I have heard are warm and sharp. Thirdly, all the feelings are responsibilities. With my youthful self, I will create a youthful Southeast, a youthful nation, a youthful earth, and a youthful universe. Yu Yun wished everyone to treasure what they have seen, heard and felt, to carry this deep love for the law school, and to go to the broad world to write the most enthusiastic youth.

Ruan Chenxin, a 2018 PhD graduate, shared her experience with the theme of being a heartfelt law grower: firstly, a law grower cannot do without a keen observation of society. Secondly, legal growers need to adhere to the concept of justice with a good heart, and legal growers must seek knowledge with a deep heart to improve academic quality. Finally, all the heart is inseparable from the diligent accumulation of knowledge, and as law students we should keep our thirst for knowledge and continuous deep plowing for academics.

Mr. Mo Jiangen, the father of Mr. Mo Fan, a 2022 LL.M. graduate, shared his thoughts on the theme of The roc rose up with the wind, and it is a pity to be young. Mr. Mo Jiangen graduated from Southeast University 28 years ago with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Mr. Mo Jiangen gave several suggestions when the students were about to start a new chapter in their lives: first, focus on the unity of knowledge and practice, and adhere to lifelong learning; second, convey the temperature of the law, and cultivate the sentiment of the people; third, do not fear failure and setbacks, and stay healthy and happy. Mr. Mo Jiangen firmly believed that the students would practice the motto of Dongda University to stop at the best and advance in their respective positions with vigor and perseverance.

Then, Ms. Liu Juan, an alumni representative, as the first graduate of the law department of Dongda University, shared with the audience some of her feelings and experiences of working in the rule of law for more than 20 years, with the theme of The Ember of Mortals on the Road of Rule of Law.

First of all, Ms. Liu expressed her fondness and gratitude to her alma mater; secondly, along the road of rule of law work, Ms. Liu Juan explained that in the dynamic development and construction of rule of law, she deeply felt the weight, the newness, the difficulty and the beauty of rule of law. Finally, Ms. Liu Juan emphasized two sentences with the students: the first sentence is stopping at the highest level of goodness, which is the spirit and moral pursuit of generations of Dongjian people. The second sentence is Those who walk alone are fast, but those who walk together are far away, and they should learn to rely on the collective to achieve personal progress and success. Ms. Liu Juan wished the graduates to find the goals they want to work for, to have dreams in their hearts, light in their eyes, and paths under their feet, and to have a promising future.

On the occasion of the farewell, Song Jie, a representative of the graduating undergraduate students, and Zhang Biao, a representative of the graduating graduate students, presented their gifts to the college.

At the end of the ceremony, all the students stood up and sang the Anthem of Southeast University, full of deep feelings and expectations.

Finally, the degree conferring ceremony of the 2022 graduates of Southeast University College of Law was grandly held, and Dean Ouyang Benqi paired the spikes for all the graduates.

The graduation ceremony is the most ritualistic event for students during their school years, and the Law School Student Work Office makes the grandest and warmest ceremony for graduates every year with the greatest newness and sincerity, and sends the most sincere blessings to them. In this year's graduation ceremony, the Office prepared a cold dinner for the graduates and wished each graduate a sweet future with the symbolic meaning of desserts and fruits. At the same time, the academic office also prepared Coke with exclusive names engraved for all teachers and graduates, wishing all the best for teachers and students.
