On April 27, 2022, Southeast University College of Law successfully held the Midterm Teaching Inspection Symposium and Dean's Lunch Event in the conference room on the fourth floor of the College of Law. Secretary of the Party Committee of the College Mao Huixi, Dean Professor Ouyang Benqi, Vice Dean Professor Xiong Zhanglin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of the College Associate Professor Liu Qichuan, Ms. Fei Qianqian and Ms. Wang Weiwei attended this event, and Vice Dean Associate Professor Shan Pingji hosted this exchange event.

At the beginning of the event, Mr. Shan Pingji expressed his warm welcome to the arrival of all students and the presence of all teachers. Mr. Shan said that the college held this valuable offline communication activity to meet the requirements of the epidemic prevention and control work, and welcomed students from different grades to raise their personal confusion and questions, and promote their growth and development through the teachers' answers.

Secretary Mao Huixi said that activities such as the Dean's Lunch and Professor's Lunch have become a characteristic culture of the School of Law, providing an opportunity for the School to understand what students think and think about their lives and studies, as well as to understand their mental health status under the epidemic situation, which is conducive to bringing teachers and students closer together and enhancing their emotions. Secretary Mao Huixi expects students to express their thoughts and feelings freely, and to promote the cultivation of students and the better development of the college together. Secretary Mao Huixi hoped that all students could improve their thinking, look at the current epidemic situation and study life from a higher perspective, and actively cooperate with the epidemic prevention and control policies at all levels, and also hoped that student cadres at all levels would give full play to their backbone role, actively organize relevant activities, strengthen communication between teachers and students, and help the college to ensure the normal study life of students during the special period of the current epidemic.

Ding Ning, Li Jiaying, Guo Shuchi and Ding Miaomiao from the 20th grade students actively explained to the teachers about the curriculum and classroom atmosphere, hoping to find various ways to activate the classroom atmosphere, strengthen mutual help among students and promote the learning effect. All the teachers said that they would actively arrange offline lectures when the epidemic situation allowed, so as to better help students to answer their questions, enhance face-to-face communication and interaction between students and teachers, and activate the classroom atmosphere.

Shi Zhuoyin, Shi Chengyun, Lu Yanche and Shi Jiayi from the 19th grade were most concerned about the current exams and graduate school, and also put forward their thoughts on the curriculum. The students suggested that the law clinic course offered in the junior year could not be practiced because of the epidemic, and they hoped to find other courses to make their professional knowledge better used in practice; as for the examinations and graduate school, the students hoped to conduct more experience sharing and exchange sessions so that they could better cope with the challenges. Secretary Mao Huixi gave a reply and told the students that the college would organize relevant experience sharing sessions and discuss the curriculum as soon as possible. He told the students that they should pay more attention to the requirements of the target institutions, find the relevant professional books, read the relevant articles, and build a solid foundation of professional courses. Mr. Ouyang Benqi told the students that, in view of the current phenomenon of hot and difficult examinations, if they decide to take the examinations, they should prepare carefully, get clear directions, grasp useful information about the examinations, establish suitable goals in combination with their actual situation, and communicate more with their tutors. Mr. Xiong Zhanglin also made a corresponding addition, telling the students not to believe too much in unofficial channels of exam information, and to have more targeted communication with their own brothers and sisters.

Wang Qi and Song Jie, who are in the fourth year of graduation, were more concerned about thesis and internship. The students hoped that the teachers could strengthen the guidance and communication for thesis writing, and that the teachers could give further guidance for the internship which was stalled due to the epidemic, so as to relieve the anxiety of the students. He told the graduating students that graduation internship and thesis have the common purpose of cultivating students' ability, and the college will actively organize relevant experience sharing and exchange sessions to provide relevant experience for students.

Yao Zeging and Wang Yuanyuan, the students with double degrees, were mainly concerned about the time of issuing graduation certificates and related documents. He told them that they should actively contact with their supervisors in the process of preparing their graduation thesis, so as to advance the progress of the graduation thesis.

The students of the first-year non-law master class, Yiran He, Dianjie Ma, Chenxi Zhao and Bohan Lu, were more concerned about the research and student work. The students suggested that there are difficulties in understanding many articles for non-law students nowadays, and they cannot find out the real new problems. Mr. Ouyang Benqi told the students that non-law students are now in a kind of transition period and have not fully formed their legal thinking, so don't be afraid of not being able to read the articles, through a lot of reading will form a kind of change, the thinking will open up and maybe there will be more discoveries. Mr. Liu Qichuan gave a patient answer to the question of the balance between student work and research by combining his own experience. He told the students to have to keep a spirited effort, not to seek comfort in their precious youth, but to have short-term and long-term planning and work hard in order to make a good balance between research and student work. He also said that he would actively organize communication between teachers and students to enhance the relationship between students and teachers.

Doctoral students Hua Ziyan and Shi Yijie expressed their confusion about the process of writing thesis to the teachers. Mr. Ouyang Benqi told the students that they should not consider too many external factors during their doctoral studies, and the most important thing is their own interest, not to change because of the hot and cold of the research problem, but to insist on their own research direction and continue with their interest as the main focus, so that they can have more gains. Mr. Xiong Zhanglin told the students that our college has a strong academic research atmosphere, and the college provides students with a platform and valuable opportunities for in-depth research. As for the reading of foreign literature and journals, students are expected to take their own initiative, exercise their reading ability, and make full use of the academic salon and other activities carried out by our college for PhD students to strengthen their academic research ability.

In addition, the teacher and the students also discussed about the prevention and control work under the epidemic situation, living food and rest in the dormitory.

Finally, Mr. Ouyang Benqi summarized the event. He said that through this activity, the college understood the different needs and psychological dynamics of students in various grades in terms of study and life, and the college would do a good job in time in response to the problems and suggestions raised by the students. He pointed out that people who are good at learning can learn better through communication, and communication with teachers and students should not only be in the classroom, but more often in the off-class initiative. Mr. Ouyang Benqi once again thanked all the students for their active participation in this activity, encouraged more communication among students, and also encouraged students not to limit themselves to formal activities, but to communicate more with teachers through various activities, and looked forward to the next opportunity to communicate with students.

The event came to an end in a relaxed and happy atmosphere. The students also had a lot to gain from the luncheon. This series of activities, as a characteristic activity of interaction between teachers and students, has built a bridge for better communication between teachers and students, so that students can get closer to teachers and teachers can understand students better, and jointly promote the healthy growth of students in law school.
