Youth Academic Salon Successfully Held -- Expounding on College Students' Self-government and Students’ Rights from Interpretation of Judgement No. 684

    On 25th of June, 2018, Youth Academic Salon of our law school was successfully held. The academic salon invited Professor Xu Yudian, distinguished professor in the department of law of Taiwan University of Success, the president of the Academy of Social Sciences, and consultant of the European Contemporary Taiwan Research Center, as the guest speaker. Prof. Gong Xianghe hosted the salon. Also participating in the salon were Prof. Meng Hongzhi, Associate Professor Li Yuxing, Associate Professor Chen Daoying, and Teacher Zhang Xuelian, and doctoral and postgraduate students majoring in Constitution and Administrative Law.

  

    Prof. Xu created a knowledgeable, humorous, lively and relaxed atmosphere. Teachers and students share academic feasts across the Taiwan Strait. Firstly, Professor Xu explained that the legal status of the Justice explaining law in Taiwan is comparable to that of the Constitution. Secondly, he mentioned that when a basic right is stipulated in the constitution, two aspects of rights are faced, that is, subjective rights face and objective rights. The former refers to the individual's request for court remedies when his rights are violated. The latter refers to the states Obligations guaranteeing the realization of this basic right by establishing an objective legal system and procedures. Then, Professor Xu discussed that three stages and three remedy approaches of students rights in detail.

  

    Professor Xu answered questions given by Doctors of Law patiently and inspired students on specific review standards. Professor Gong Xianghe highly praised Professor Xu's contribution to the construction of educational jurisprudence. Professor Meng Hongzhi also guided students to have both problem awareness and writing awareness, and to learn Professor Xus attitude towards research.
