On November 13, 2023, at noon, the Dean's Luncheon and Midterm Teaching Inspection Symposium Warm and Sharp Together, Pen and Ink Become a 'Chapter' was successfully held in the conference room on the fourth floor of the Law School. Prof. Liu Qichuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Law School of Southeast University, Prof. Ouyang Benqi, Dean of Law School, Prof. Xiong Zhanglin, Associate Dean of Law School, Prof. Shan Pingji, Associate Dean of Law School, Ms. Fei Qianqian, Secretary of the Youth League Committee and Undergraduate Counselor, Ms. Wang Weiwei, Secretary of Undergraduate Teaching and Learning and Personnel Secretary, as well as 10 representatives of the undergraduate students attended the event together.
Prof. Liu Qichuan pointed out that the teaching work is to guarantee the students' learning effect as the first priority, and the luncheon builds a bridge for teachers and students to communicate with each other freely, which allows teachers to understand the students' needs and adjust their teaching methods in time. Meanwhile, in response to the students' question about the difficulty of absorbing and understanding the many legal doctrines, Prof. Liu Qichuan encouraged them to listen to both sides of the story, and to learn from different perspectives, which will help them to cultivate their independent thinking ability and broaden their horizons.
Prof. Ouyang Benqi answered the students' confusion about their studies. He pointed out that students who study law for the first time often have the feeling of not seeing the forest for the trees, but he emphasized the principle that quantitative change leads to qualitative change: only through continuous accumulation and study can we truly understand and master the essence of law. For the second degree students, Prof. Ouyang Benqi also pointed out that although two years of study is not enough to fully appreciate the depth of jurisprudence, as long as they live up to the time and study diligently, it is enough to lay a solid foundation of jurisprudence for them.
Prof. Xiong Zhanglin suggested that students should learn some methods of empirical analysis during their undergraduate studies to build a solid language foundation, which will be very beneficial to their future legal research. In view of the anxiety of the students who have changed their majors, Prof. Xiong Zhanglin encouraged them to face the difficulties, ask for advice from the excellent students who have changed their majors in the Law School, and use their own unremitting struggle to dissipate and overcome the anxiety.
Prof. Shan Pingji suggests you to read more classic books, listen to more lectures and courses, study more actual cases and participate in more practical learning. These methods can help students build their own knowledge system, so that they can better understand and learn law knowledge. At the same time, Prof. Shan Pingji patiently explained the arrangement of the progress of the graduation project for the students who are close to graduation, and suggested that the students who are preparing for graduate school should focus on reviewing the exams and allocate their time reasonably to ensure the quality of the graduation project, and the college will also provide students with assistance in selecting topics and writing guidance.
At the end of the meeting, Dean Ouyang Benqi expressed his hope that students would communicate with teachers, make good use of learning resources on and off campus, and improve their abilities in all aspects and at all levels. Southeast University School of Law will continue to provide a favorable learning environment and teaching resources to support and guide the growth and development of students.
In a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, the Mid-term Teaching Inspection Seminar and Dean's Lunch was successfully concluded. This activity allowed students to get timely solutions to their problems, established a direct communication bridge for teachers and students, enhanced the relationship between teachers and students, and injected new vitality into the development of the college. The Dean's Luncheon, as a featured activity of the Law School's faculty and students' interaction and communication, has infiltrated the Wenrui culture into every corner of the Law School's faculty and students' activities. In the future, the School of Law will continue to organize a series of luncheon activities to build more platforms for teachers and students to interact and communicate with each other in the spirit of Wenrui culture.
