In order to further improve the quality of postgraduate dissertations and guide students' dissertation writing, the School of Law of Southeast University organizes a series of dissertation writing training lectures.2023 At 14:30 on November 16, Cheng Hong, senior subject librarian of the Library of Southeast University and Associate Professor of the School of Law of Southeast University was invited by the School of Law of Southeast University to bring a wonderful lecture on the topic of Using Web of Science platform to assist SSCI paper publication. The lecture was hosted by Mr. Ji Yang, Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Southeast University School of Law, with Mr. Feng Yuqing, Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Southeast University School of Law, Mr. Yang Jie, Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Southeast University School of Law, Mr. Miao Zeyi, Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor of Southeast University School of Law, and Mr. Zhang Yue, Associate Professor and Master's Supervisor of Southeast University School of Law, as the talkers. The lecture attracted law teachers and students from different regions and schools to learn together and had a warm response. Before the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Ji Yang of Southeast University Law School expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to Mr. Cheng Hong. Mr. Cheng Hong also expressed his pleasure to share his experience of using Web of Science platform to publish papers.

At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Cheng Hong started from the reality of students' SSCl publication. First of all, Mr. Cheng introduced the status of SSCI and the current publication status, SSCI (Social Sciences Citation Index), which was created by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) in the U.S. to include important social science journals worldwide. In recent years, the competition in the field of social science research in China has become increasingly fierce, and the evaluation standard of social science research in universities has also risen. not only is the number of CSSCI journals limited, which is difficult to meet the increasing demand for publication, but also, except for a few top journals, most of them are not able to compare with the weight of SSCI journals in the assessment. Then, Mr. Cheng Hong showed the requirements for doctoral students of Southeast University to apply for doctoral degree, in which one academic paper published in SSCI/A& HCI source journals of law disciplines can be equated to two academic papers published in CSSCI (core edition) source journals, which tells students the weight of SSCI journals and encourages them to pay attention to the publication of SSCI journals.

After that, Mr. Cheng Hong elaborated on the possibility for students to publish SSCl. Mr. Cheng Hong pointed out that the SSCl journal directory is updated around the 20th of every month, and the latest SSCI journals are 3,551, of which psychology accounts for the highest proportion, followed by social hall economics, education and law journals, all of which are more than 100. Therefore, in addition to law journals, you can pay attention to journals in other disciplines such as criminology and penology, education, social issues, family studies, women's studies, regional studies, environmental studies, urban studies, transportation, etc. according to your research direction. Then, Mr. Cheng Hong showed the first-author SSCI/A&HCi publications of students from liberal arts faculties in Southeast University in the past three years, which statistically increased with an annual incremental trend from 2020 to 2022, with the fastest growth rate in 2022. In addition, Mr. Cheng Hong also showed the publication situation of other universities in the past three years, pointing out that the standards of each university are different, and should be referred to the publication situation of liberal arts faculties of Southeast University, Mr. Cheng Hong pointed out that the students of Southeast University School of Law have a huge possibility to publish SSCI.

Finally, Mr. Cheng Hong elaborated on the strategies for students to publish SSCl. Mr. Cheng Hong introduced the two aspects of choosing graduation journal carefully and searching for journals to submit manuscripts. First of all, students should be cautious in choosing sacred journals for graduation and should be aware of certain risks. Mr. Cheng suggested that students should pay attention to the International Journal Early Warning List of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Early warning journals can remind researchers to choose publication platforms carefully and prompt publishing organizations to strengthen the quality management of journals. Mr. Cheng emphasized that for journals with soaring publication volume, high self-citation rate, high withdrawal rate, expensive page charges, and abnormally high percentage of nationals, students should be careful when submitting manuscripts, and pay more attention to the related negative information. The latest SSCI journal catalog should always prevail when submitting manuscripts. Secondly, search for journals for submission. Combine the latest SSCI journal catalog and the latest journal impact factor to choose, as far as possible, choose journals with continuous journal impact factor in the past 5 years, and at the same time, pay attention to the latest changes of journals with impact factor. As far as possible, we should choose journals in which scholars from mainland China have already published, especially journals that have published in the last 5 years. Mr. Cheng Hong suggested that you can search through Citation Topics to select journals suitable for law dissertations among other types of journals. Taking finding SSCI journals in the field of right to health as an example, through the theme search and analysis function of Web of Science platform. We analyzed the trend of publication by publication year, analyzed the major journals by publication title, and filtered out the major journals published by Chinese scholars under this topic by country/region. Mr. Cheng Hong proposed four main topics for the analysis. Finally, Mr. Cheng Hong put forward four suggestions. First, use Web of Science platform skillfully, pay attention to SSCI journals (not limited to law journals) related to your research direction and topic, and their impact factors and partitions, familiarize yourself with the publishing preferences of these journals, and know their major publishing countries, institutions and authors. You can often read and utilize the authoritative SSCl law journals as well as the related journals of your specialty, which is helpful for publishing papers in CSSCI source journals, writing dissertations, and researching foreign literature when declaring projects. Secondly, you can cooperate with teachers or domestic and foreign organizations who have experience in successful SSCI submission. For those students who are engaged in the research of transportation law, engineering law, medical law, big data and artificial intelligence law and other cross-cutting legal studies, they can cooperate with the teachers and students of the relevant colleges in our university. It is easier to cooperate in the early stage of SSCI paper submission. Third, avoid low-level SSCI journals. These journals often lack a rigorous review process and excellent editorial team, and the articles they publish often lack academic value and influence. Fourth, skillfully use literature management tools, such as EndNote, NoteExpress.

In the talk session, Mr. Miao Zeyi thanked Mr. Cheng Hong for the wonderful lecture, and thought that Mr. Cheng Hong's lecture was very meaningful, especially about the role of Web of Science database for law thesis publication. With the continuous development of cross-disciplines, the data tools of Web of Science can assist law teachers and students to choose more appropriate journals and topics. Currently, due to the limited interest of foreign editors, it is difficult to publish purely legal research in SSCI, so it is possible to choose cross-disciplinary research. Through the method of blind men feeling the elephant, they can read widely, find articles suitable for themselves and study them, and then choose the topic of interest after mastering the method of writing.

Mr. Feng Yuqing thanked Mr. Cheng Hong for coming and expressed his understanding of this lecture. Mr. Feng Yuqing suggested that we should look at AI writing dialectically, on the one hand, we should use the convenience brought by intelligence, on the other hand, we should pay attention to academic integrity. In addition, Mr. Feng shared four points with the students: first, whether writing articles in Chinese or English, the essence is to do academic communication, so one should master both Chinese and English as well as a small language. When choosing a topic, do not limit yourself to a single perspective in English or Chinese. In terms of academic vision, consider whether the research is valuable, and you can start from issues of common concern to all mankind, such as global economic development, environmental issues, and so on. Secondly, it is not acceptable to write a Chinese article and then translate it into English, because it involves self-plagiarism, which is a very serious academic integrity issue. Third, one should look at research and publication issues dialectically and not publish very bad articles just for the sake of publishing. Fourth, in terms of journal selection, social sciences are recommended among law and social sciences. In addition, the choice of academic journals represents the academic taste of the authors, and you need to be careful when choosing journals and not just focus on the impact factor.

Ms. Yang Jie thanked Mr. Cheng Hong for his lecture and expressed her inspiration in this lecture. Ms. Yang Jie suggested that the realistic purpose of SSCI publication in English journals is to meet the graduation requirement of doctoral degree, but there is a little addition to the graduation requirement at present, that is, the requirement of publishing a large paper with a small paper has relevance, and choosing SSCI publication needs to ensure that this SSCI article has relevance to one's own large paper, so doctoral students need to carefully consider choosing SSCI publication in combination with their long term development. In addition, in the choice of good SSCI journals and Chinese C journals, it is necessary to combine with their own foreign language advantages and disciplinary advantages for comprehensive consideration. When choosing the theme of SSCI journals, it is necessary to choose a theme that can be studied in depth, avoiding changing one place for another. Finally, if there are opportunities for overseas cooperation programs, we are encouraged to actively participate in them, as foreign tutors can provide assistance in language and topic selection.

Ms. Zhang Yue thanked Mr. Cheng Hong again for coming and expressed her understanding of this lecture. Ms. Zhang said that it is very difficult to publish SSCI, and suggested that students should consult with published teachers, who have rich experience in publishing and can provide suitable topics for journals. In addition, students are advised to consider the reviewing time of the journal when submitting manuscripts, as the track of Law Core is narrower, the cycle is longer, the number of accepted articles is limited, and the time cost is higher.

During the question and answer session, students in the audience seized the opportunity to ask questions actively. Some students proposed: can you submit a manuscript to a foreign country for more than one issue teachers responded, the reviewers of foreign journals are very narrow, you can't do that, you can only submit other journals after rejection. Some students asked, If I write a manuscript in Chinese and ChatGPT translates it, will it be recognized as written by ChatGPT when I submit it? Teachers responded, Interpretation is possible, the author is ORIGINAL and the first writing language is Chinese. A student asked, Would it be risky to use this section in a doctoral dissertation in Chinese language for an SSCI that has already been issued? The faculty responded, This is all the author's own work and there is no risk, but you need to read the instructions when submitting the paper. In addition students also asked about common first works, references and other aspects, teachers responded one by one.

Finally, Mr. Jiyang summarized the lecture and encouraged the students to be skilled in using Web of Science platform to assist in the publication of papers, and once again expressed his gratitude to Mr. Cheng Hong for his wonderful sharing.
