After expert evaluation, public announcement to the society, and examination and approval by the award committee, the Ministry of Education recently issued the Decision on the Ninth Award for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research in Colleges and Universities (Humanities and Social Sciences) (No. 1 of Education and Social Sciences [2024]), and Associate Professor Jiyang's thesis, ‘The Right of Self-Determination of Legal Benefits and Judicial Boundaries of the Crime of Infringing on Citizens’ Personal Information’ (published in the 4th Issue of 2019 of the Chinese Jurisprudence), was awarded the ‘Youth Achievement Award’.
Established in 1995 and selected every three years, the Ministry of Education Award for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research in Higher Educational Institutions (Humanities and Social Sciences) is domestically recognised as the highest award in the field of humanities and social sciences research, and is highly authoritative, credible and influential. The scope of this year's awards covers 29 disciplines, including law, and for the period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2021, there are awards for books and papers, consulting service reports, popular books, and youth achievements. Among them, the Youth Achievement Award, which is not graded, aims to reward achievements that are original and groundbreaking in the field of study and have an important role in promoting academic development or solving practical problems. This year, a total of 1,496 achievements were awarded (including those awarded by universities in Hong Kong and Macao). Among them: 1,196 awards for books and essays, including 118 first prizes and 513 second prizes; 76 awards for consultancy reports, including 7 first prizes; 21 awards for popular books; and 203 awards for young people's achievements.
