On the evening of 29 September 2024, the 7th New Liberal Arts Lecture Theatre of Southeast University and the 29th Wenrui Law Lecture Theatre of the Law School of Southeast University were held in the mock courtroom on the fourth floor of the Law School of Southeast University. Professor Ma Changshan, Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education's ‘Cheung Kong Scholar Award Scheme’, Vice President of the Jurisprudence Research Society of the China Law Society, and Director of the Digital Rule of Law Research Institute of the East China University of Political Science and Law, gave a lecture on the topic of ‘Digital Jurisprudence for a Three-Dimensional World’ to the audience. ‘ as the title, brought a brilliant academic lecture for the whole university teachers and students.
The lecture was hosted by Professor Wang Lusheng, Director of Social Science Department of Southeast University and Director of Future Rule of Law and Digital Intelligence Technology Innovation Laboratory. At the beginning of the lecture, Director Wang Lusheng expressed his warm welcome to Professor Ma Changshan's arrival and introduced Professor Ma's leading position and outstanding contributions in the field of digital law. He pointed out that the theme of the lecture ‘Digital Jurisprudence in the Face of the “Three-dimensional World”’ is deeply in line with the pulse of the times, and will lead us to a new realm of legal research in the future. At the same time, he sincerely invites experts and scholars from all over the country to participate in the ‘New Liberal Arts Lecture Theatre’ of Southeast University, to contribute their wisdom and strength to promote the innovation and progress of legal education in the digital era, and to jointly create a new chapter of social science research.
In the lecture, Prof. Ma Changshan firstly introduced the evolution of jurisprudence from ‘one-dimensional world’ to ‘three-dimensional world’, and led the students and teachers to travel between traditional jurisprudence, modern jurisprudence and digital jurisprudence; secondly, he elucidated the core scope of digital jurisprudence, which covers digital rights, digital power and digital justice; lastly, he looked forward to the future of digital jurisprudence and the future of digital justice. In the talk session, Professor Gao Zhihong, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Professor Ouyang Benqi, Dean of the School of Law of Southeast University, and Associate Professor Xu Minchuan of the School of Law of Southeast University shared their views one after another. Professor Gao Zhihong pointed out that the emergence and development of digital jurisprudence is historically inevitable from the physical world, the spiritual world to the digital world. Professor Ouyang Benqi emphasised that a deeper understanding of the three-dimensional world is the key to understanding the establishment of digital jurisprudence and the construction of a digital society, and gave examples from the perspective of criminal law to illustrate the distinction between the physical world, the spiritual world and the digital world. Associate Professor Xu Minchuan talked about the integration of the digital society into the physical and spiritual society, which deconstructs and reconstructs the social demand for law and the functional position of law; the study of digital jurisprudence is a challenge and an opportunity, but it is also the mission of the times. Afterwards, Gong Xianghe, Director of Human Rights Research Institute of Southeast University, and Ren Danli, Director of Civil and Commercial Law Teaching and Research Department of the Law School, had in-depth exchanges with Prof. Ma Changshan on digital human rights and digital rights respectively.
Finally, Prof Ma Changshan answered questions from the students. Professor Ma stressed that the digital world is a reflection of the physical world and the spiritual world, which intersects, independently and counteracts the physical world and the spiritual world, and forms many issues such as digital rights, digital power and digital justice. The lecture aroused the interest of the students and teachers in the audience in digital jurisprudence and triggered their further thinking about the development of digital jurisprudence in the three-dimensional world, which was a great success.
