The Sixteenth Dean's Luncheon of Southeast University School of Law was held successfully

In order to further build an interactive communication platform for teachers and students, the College successfully held the 16th Dean's Luncheon on 20 February in the conference room on the fourth floor. Liu Qichuan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Southeast University School of Law, Xiong Zhanglin, Dean, Shan Pingji, Vice Dean, Ji Yang, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean Chen Yun, Fei Qianqian, Secretary of the Youth League Committee and Undergraduate Counsellor, Ma Yanghua, Secretary of Graduate Teaching, Zhong Yi, Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee and Postgraduate Counsellor, as well as eleven representatives of the students of the School attended the event together.


In response to the students' concern about academic pressure, Dean Xiong Zhanglin pointed out that we should rationally look at the common requirements of the curriculum, encouraged students to strengthen their professional foundation with a calm mind, and the College will continue to optimise the design of the teaching system to promote the positive interaction between teaching and learning. On the issue of reading, Dean Xiong Zhanglin put forward the methodology of ‘both instrumental and ideological reading’, and suggested cultivating academic innovative thinking through thematic in-depth reading.


Liu Qichuan, the secretary of the university, stressed the development path of both quantity and quality of participation in academic competitions, and encouraged students to form a systematic learning programme based on scientific assessment of their own abilities and benchmarking against excellent role models. In the face of students' confusion about career planning, Liu Qichuan proposed the need to comprehensively consider the elements of choice and risk avoidance, scientific decision-making to consolidate the foundation of development.


Focusing on the cultivation of rule of law talents, Vice President Shan Pingji pointed out that the competitiveness of the public examination should be enhanced by continuous scientific research practice, and emphasised the study characteristics of the discipline of law, which is ‘positively correlated with input and output’. In addition, Vice Dean Shan encouraged the students who are not satisfactory in their studies to hold the ‘zero mentality’, not to miss the past, and to move forward with courage, so that they can build a solid foundation and system in their future studies and realise a leap in their professional ability.


Combining his experience in coaching disciplinary competitions, Vice Dean Ji Yang advised students to coordinate the relationship between coursework and competitions, optimise time management, and rely on the guidance of tutors to improve the effectiveness of competition preparation. For the choice of further study, Vice Dean Ji Yang analysed the dialectical relationship between ‘platform level and mentor's guidance’, and advocated the optimal allocation of academic resources based on personal development planning.


Deputy Secretary Chen Yun stressed the importance of career planning in response to students' confusion about employment, and indicated that the College would actively consider incorporating new issues into the career planning course system, and help students better understand themselves, clarify the direction of future development, and make clearer and more rational career choices through the optimal design of the course.


Secretary Liu Qichuan concluded that the College will continue to build a new type of teacher-student community by relying on the youthful leadership team, and accurately meet the needs of students through the ‘face-to-face’ dialogue mechanism. Secretary Liu Qichuan encouraged students to refine their independent judgement in the diversity of opinions, and to transform the experience of teachers and teachers into personalised development plans, so as to make a steady progress in the future.


The luncheon was successfully concluded in a cordial atmosphere, and the participating teachers and students had a full exchange of views on learning and employment issues, and the students benefited a lot. The dean's luncheon will continue to play the role of a bridge, through face-to-face exchanges to achieve the organic unity of thought leadership and value shaping, to provide strong support for the cultivation of outstanding rule of law talents in the new era.
