The 12th China International Criminal Court Moot Court English Competition (ICCMCC) will be held in Beijing from March 7th to 9th, 2025. This competition has attracted 60 well-known law schools in China, including Peking University, Fudan University, China University of Political Science and Law, Beijing Normal University, Wuhan University, etc. It can be said that there is a gathering of outstanding talents and strong players. According to the competition rules, the top 9 teams in terms of total points nationwide will win the first prize, and the top 5 teams will represent China in international competitions; The top 18 in the country won the second prize, and the top 30 won the third prize. After fierce competition, the representative team of Southeast University Law School won the third prize in the domestic competition for the first time with outstanding performance. This achievement not only demonstrates the professional competence and English proficiency of our law students, but also reflects the significant progress made in the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents in our school.
This year's participating team is coached by Professor He Yingxin and Professor Zhang Yue from Southeast University Law School. During the preparation process, Professor Dong Luyu and Lawyer Nie Xiaoyang also provided professional support for the team. This year's participating team is composed of team leader Zhang Zixian (undergraduate student of the Law School of 2022), team members Li Jiayu (Master of Law of the Law School of 2024), Fan Lingqi (undergraduate student of the Law School of 2022), Xu Mingyao (undergraduate student of the Law School of 2022), and Ayakuzi Alxin (undergraduate student of the Law School of 2022).
The team training began at the end of June 2024. After intensive summer training and strict screening, it was officially established in October and began a six-month preparation journey. In the initial preparation stage, the team members systematically studied the competition rules, conducted in-depth analysis of the case background, and extensively researched relevant legal literature. To improve the quality of the pleadings, the team adopts a division of labor and collaboration model, responsible for the legal arguments and document writing work of the prosecution, defense, and victim respectively. By proficiently mastering the search skills of international authoritative databases such as Google Scholar, Westlaw, and Heinonline, the team members were able to efficiently obtain relevant legal literature and precedents, laying a solid theoretical foundation for the writing of pleadings. After months of careful polishing, the team successfully completed an English brief of nearly 50000 words for the prosecution, defense, and victim on January 7, 2025. During this period, the team members strived for excellence and repeatedly scrutinized each legal argument to ensure rigorous logical reasoning and strong evidence. This preparation process not only significantly improved the legal professional competence and English writing ability of the team members, but also cultivated excellent teamwork spirit and stress resistance. Faced with numerous challenges, the team members always maintained a positive and enterprising attitude and firm belief, ultimately delivering a satisfactory answer sheet.
The Law School of Southeast University has always adhered to the training goal of "creating first-class legal disciplines and cultivating first-class legal talents", and continuously promoted the cultivation of foreign-related legal talents as a key task. With the high attention and strong support of the college leadership, a set of student competition management and incentive mechanisms has been established, effectively stimulating students' enthusiasm for participation and professional potential. The achievement of this competition fully demonstrates the solid professional foundation, broad international perspective, and excellent debating ability of our college students, demonstrating the effectiveness of our college in cultivating foreign-related legal talents. The road ahead is long and arduous, and I will search for it from top to bottom. Although this year's competition has come to a successful end, the footsteps of law students at Donghua University in exploring the mysteries of international law have not stopped. Looking forward to the Southeast University Law School representative team achieving even better results in the future ICCMCC series of competitions!
