Joining Hands to Create a New Chapter - Deepening Cooperation and Exchange between Southeast University Law School and University of Wisconsin Madison Law School

On the afternoon of May 19th, Dan Tokaji, Dean of the School of Law at the University of Wisconsin Madison, Vice Dean Rebecca Scheller, Dean's Assistant Jason Smith, Graduate Program Assistant Director Monique Lu, Dean's Administrative Assistant Myra Sun, and a delegation of six people visited Southeast University Law School to have in-depth exchanges on the international cooperation between the two sides.


Professor Xiong Zhanglin, Dean of the School of Law at Southeast University, Associate Professors Xu Minchuan and Yu Tao, Assistant Dean, Associate Professors Ye Quan, Zhang Yue, Xing Chenxi, He Yingxin, and others attended the symposium. The meeting was chaired by Assistant Dean Xu Minchuan.


At the beginning of the symposium, Dean Xiong Zhanglin warmly welcomed the visit of the delegation from the University of Wisconsin Madison Law School, and comprehensively introduced the development history, discipline construction, scientific research strength, faculty characteristics, innovative teaching models, and international cooperation achievements of Southeast University Law School. He pointed out that both sides have a common mission and responsibility in the field of legal education and research, and look forward to further expanding cooperation in academic research, talent cultivation, and faculty visits, working together to promote international legal education exchanges, and continuously contributing to the development of the global legal industry.


Dean Dan Tokaji expressed sincere gratitude for the warm reception of the Law School of Southeast University and highly appreciated its outstanding achievements in academic research and talent cultivation. He specifically mentioned the outstanding achievements of Associate Professors Feng Yuqing and Zhang Yue, alumni of the University of Wisconsin, at the Law School of Southeast University, witnessing the deep friendship and cooperation foundation between the two institutions. He stated that the current international landscape is undergoing profound changes, and the exchange and cooperation between the law schools of the two universities should be further deepened, especially in legal education, which should not only focus on theoretical teaching, but also pay attention to the cultivation of legal professional skills. Dean Tokaji also highlighted the advantages and characteristics of the University of Wisconsin Law School in the fields of world law education, constitutional and administrative law, intellectual property law, etc. He highly praised the significance and good prospects of jointly carrying out the VISP project with the Eastern University Law School, and looked forward to future cooperation in multiple fields and levels between the two sides.


Subsequently, Assistant Dean Yu Tao systematically introduced the current situation and future plans of international cooperation in the Law School of Southeast University, expressing the vision of continuously deepening interdisciplinary legal research, expanding global academic partners, promoting joint research, faculty exchanges, dual degree programs, cooperative publication and international conferences, and looking forward to further enhancing friendship and enriching academic exchange achievements on the basis of existing good cooperation.


Teacher Xing Chenxi gave an introduction on the interdisciplinary construction of the Law School. She pointed out that in addition to traditional advantageous disciplines, the Law School of Southeast University focuses on four interdisciplinary fields: digital law, engineering law, medical law, and transportation law. With the support of disciplinary systems, it has built a distinctive academic platform, offered a diverse curriculum system, explored new paths for interdisciplinary legal education, and achieved significant results in academic competitions and social services. She stated that the college will continue to expand interdisciplinary legal research, cultivate high-level legal talents with a combination of legal and technological literacy, and look forward to closer cooperation with the University of Wisconsin Madison Law School in related fields in the future.


During the free exchange session, Dean Dan Tokaji, Vice Dean Rebecca Scheller, Dean's Assistant Jason Smith and other guests had a thorough and in-depth discussion with senior teachers from Southeast University Law School on topics such as faculty visits, student exchanges, joint publications, dual degree programs, international academic conferences, and summer international schools.


At the symposium, Associate Professors Ye Quan, Zhang Yue, and He Yingxin respectively introduced their research directions and overseas study experiences, expressing a strong desire to conduct academic exchanges and cooperation at the University of Wisconsin.


At the end of the event, both sides exchanged souvenirs, expressing their deep appreciation and appreciation for the long-term friendly cooperation between the two academies. It also implies that in the future, both sides will continue to consolidate the foundation of cooperation, expand cooperation areas, and work together to create a new situation of mutual benefit and coordinated development. I believe that this symposium will become an important new starting point for both sides to deepen exchanges and enhance cooperation.
