Dear students, alumni, and friends,
Welcome to the School of Law at Southeast University! I am delighted to have the opportunity to communicate with you all here.
The School of Law traces its origins to the Law School of the National Central University founded in 1928. In 1995, Southeast University reinstated the law major and established the Department of Law, followed by the reestablishment of the School of Law in 2006. Since its founding, the School has embraced a vision of development that is interdisciplinary, collaborative, and practice-oriented.
Over more than two decades of development, the School has built upon traditional fields such as Constitutional and Administrative Law, Criminal Law, Civil and Commercial Law, Jurisprudence, and International Law, while expanding into emerging interdisciplinary areas including Digital Law, Engineering Law, Transportation Law, Medical Law, Education Law, and Human Rights Law.
Through these efforts, the School has forged a distinctive path for cultivating legal professionals within a university renowned for science and engineering. Its new liberal arts and new law education model enjoys a strong national reputation. In recent years, Southeast University’s Law discipline has consistently ranked among the top 10% nationwide in the “Best Chinese Law Disciplines Ranking” released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy and achieved a historic breakthrough in the Ministry of Education’s Fifth Round of Discipline Evaluation.
The School of Law remains committed to providing excellent, international, and research-oriented elite legal education, guided by the educational philosophy of nurturing talent with both warmth and sharpness.Warmth represents the cohesion, integrity, and humanistic spirit that underpin moral cultivation and social responsibility.Sharpness embodies the pursuit of excellence and global vision essential to cultivating leading talents in the rule of law.
The School emphasizes comprehensive student development through small-class teaching, case-based discussion, and bilingual instruction. Practice-oriented training—such as moot courts, legal clinics, and internship programs—together with joint training initiatives between universities and legal institutions, ensures that students acquire fundamental legal practice skills and the ability to apply legal theories and methodologies to solve real-world legal problems. The School strives to cultivate high-level, well-rounded legal professionals characterized by noble ideals, integrity, and competence, equipped with a modern vision of the rule of law.
The School of Law warmly welcomes students from China and abroad to study and conduct research here. It is devoted to fostering long-term partnerships with prestigious law schools worldwide and to promoting comparative legal studies across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, as well as between the civil law and common law traditions. These collaborations provide our faculty and students with valuable opportunities to access the latest international research achievements. At present, the School has established exchange and cooperation agreements with many internationally renowned institutions, including the University of Washington School of Law, the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, the University of Florida Levin College of Law, Waseda University School of Law, the City University of Hong Kong School of Law, National Chengchi University College of Law, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison Law School.
