On the afternoon of 18 April, Professor Chen Hongbing, a doctoral supervisor at the School of Law of Southeast University, was invited by Dr. Xing Jiang, Director of the Criminal Defence Committee of the Hefei Lawyers Association, to deliver a lecture on the theme of ‘Examining the Legislative Purpose of Criminal Law Provisions from the Perspective of Criminal Defence.’ Wang Hong, Vice President of the Municipal Lawyers Association, and Huang Ao, Deputy Secretary-General, attended the event, along with members of the Municipal Lawyers Association's Criminal Law Professional Committee and nearly 200 lawyers who actively participated.
During the lecture, Professor Chen Hongbing analysed complex issues in criminal defence by referencing relevant judicial interpretations and typical cases, and proposed corresponding strategies. He emphasised that each criminal provision in the Criminal Law is designed to protect specific legal interests. Accurately understanding the legal interests protected by each criminal charge is the key to effectively applying legal provisions in defence. Additionally, Professor Chen Hongbing engaged in lively discussions with participating lawyers on core issues such as ‘the legal interests involved in official misconduct crimes’ and patiently answered various questions raised by the lawyers.
At the lecture venue, China Renmin University Press organised a signing and book-selling event for Professor Chen Hongbing's best-selling book, ‘A Detailed Explanation of the 100 Most Common Crimes in Criminal Law.’ Many lawyers actively participated, creating a lively atmosphere and bringing the lecture to a climax. This event not only provided lawyers with a professional platform for learning and exchange but also further promoted the deep integration of criminal law theory and practice, playing a positive role in enhancing the level of criminal defence services in the Hefei region.
